Bench’s classic look remains true to its roots for S/S 05. The now legendary graphic logo is ever present, but is joined by new strong visuals and silhouette based graphics. Silhouettes are clean and strong including new jeans styled jackets, lightweight knits and button through shirts in classic colors. Navy and grey predominate counterbalanced by bold summer brights. Bench is renowned for its strong tech vibe, and this season is no exception as the line continues to offer a slicker, more worked range of products. Sharp linear graphics highlight mesh layered sweats, interlock polos and shell jackets in a variety of greys off set by zesty yellows, sky blues and soft pinks. Technical features remain key: eyelet venting is continued with the addition of inner binding on jackets and ergonomic seaming to define the look of the range. Graphics maintain this look with computer generated repeats and optical illusions a big influence. Street influences come to the fore with the raw line which continues to move forward as more of an evolution than a revolution. The raw logo’ed look and rough finishing and trims remain, along with the distressed, battered influences, while new trims, washes and details enhance the range. Graphics are characterized by dual layer applications with appliqué, flocking and embroidery featuring strongly, while a more ‘urban’ visual concept is adopted for knitted products.
