With Crooks and Castles, it's all about the villains. The bad guy in the movie. The gangster in the rap song. The villain in the comic book or novel. For Dennis Calvero and Robert Panlilio, the founders of Crooks and Castles clothing, villains were everywhere when they were growing up in L.A.—and they were fascinated. When they started their streetwear company in 2002, they turned their fascination with gangs and villains into a line of unique graphic brands. Now a full-blown streetwear brand, Crooks and Castles is all about style, swagger, and life spent hustling on the street.
The name was easy: Crooks for the criminals, hustlers, pimps, and thieves. And Castles for the crooks who got rich—the robber barons who stop at nothing to get their castle. With their first flagship store opening in Melrose Heights in 2007, the crooks got the first of their castles and are on their way to being the next rich crooks.
