T-Shirts by Junk Food
JunkFood Owners/Designers Natalie Grof and Blaine Halvorson were born miles apart, but came together by chance to develop what became JunkFood Clothing in 1998. Natalie was born in New York City, but grew up in Los Angeles. After graduating from FIDM with a Manufacturing/Product Development degree, she worked in various showrooms downtown in California’s New Mart. At the same time, Blaine was graduating from MSU in Montana with a Fine Arts/Graphic Design degree and dabbling in couture fashion.
The two met at a MAGIC show in Las Vegas and crossed paths again when Blaine moved to Los Angeles to pursue a fashion design career. Natalie, wanting to be involved in fashion since she was a little girl, landed a design/production job at Planet Golf. Blaine also worked for Planet Golf while maintaining his own company, Liquid Blaino Designs. After cutting up Twister patterns to design women’s skirts and shirts, the two got the idea to start a t-shirt line that was different from the rest.
Taking orders from an apartment and shipping out of a storage unit became the start of their partnership and business for the next 2 years. JunkFood started with nostalgic brands like Twister, Candy Land, and My Little Pony. Over the past 7 years, JunkFood has obtained important licensees like Sesame Street, Rolling Stones, DC Comics, Looney Toons, etc... JunkFood is constantly topping themselves off with new designs, new licenses, and new lines like the tween and men’s line.
What once was a 2 man operation out of an apartment has become Hollywood’s favorite t-shirt and a quick trip down memory lane for the entire world. Natalie and Blaine aren’t through evolving yet and there are always new surprises for the future of JunkFood. Click
