DJ/Producer
virtuoso Josh Wink, who most recently released the
highly celebrated Profound Sounds v2 (the follow-up
to his 1999 smash, Profound Sounds v1), brings you
20 to 20 - an Acid House movement-inspired CD of all
original material on Ovum Recordings/System Recordings
- October 21st, 2003. Motivated by the Acid House
sound that emerged in Chicago in the 80s and later
exploded as the biggest youth culture movement on
the UK club scene since Punk Rock a decade earlier,
the collection of Wink tunes on 20 to 20 span a five
year writing and DJing period, and serve as a musical
homage to Wink's roots and muses.
The
celebrated artist, whose productions have moved dance
floors and influenced producers world-wide, says Acid
House has never left his consciousness: "People
often ask what I think about Acid House "coming
back"and I tell them that for me it never left.
I have continued to incorporate acid house in such
recent productions as Superfreak, Evil Acidand my
remixes for Dave Clark's Compassand Bodyby Masters
at Work."
Created
using a Roland TB-303 analogue bass synthesizer, the
Acid style began as an accident, when Chicago House
pioneers Phuture were trying to figure out how to
use their equipment early on. The nascent Acid House
sound took over the clubs, and left a huge impression
on the then teenage Wink in his hometown of Philadelphia.
Considered
one of dance music's legends, having remixed the likes
of Depeche Mode, Paul Oakenfold, and most recently,
Sting (Wink's remix of Sting's new single Send Your
Loveis slated for release on Interscope/A&M in
September), Wink refuses to rest on his laurels, continuing
to push the envelope with his ground-breaking productions.
The 20 to 20 EP is a treat for the heads, for DJs
who play on CD, and for die-hard Wink fans alike.
Tune in; Turn on; and drop the Bass! Wink calls it
Acieeed!
