Honestly, we were a tad bit skeptical before clicking play on this one. Sometimes, when certain things look too good on paper but fall short of those expectations, you are left with nothing but disappointment. Kinda like a soggy bowl cereal. And we really didn’t want that feeling to be associated with either Vic or Disclosure, two of our favorite artists out right now.
Lucky for us, we couldn’t have been more wrong. Flowing over Disclosure’s “When A Fire Starts To Burn,” Mr. Mensa absolutely kills it, reminding us of a young Wale rapping over Justice‘s “D.A.N.C.E.” Vic spits an agile 16 bars, riding the beat with a more London garage-pop cadence than the signature Chicagoan hunger he is known for. Versatility is more important than ever for rappers today, and if this is any indication, we can guarantee that Vic will be here for a while.
Are we alone for hoping these two link up for an EP? We need more!
Crank this the right way.
