You’re welcome. Why, you ask? Because we found it in the bottom of our hearts to sift through all the upcoming movie releases and list some of the best expected blockbusters to come in the next year for you guys. So mark the dates on your calendars because the rest of 2013 and 2014 is going to be packed with some heavy hitters you don’t want to miss.
1. Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues
Ron Burgundy and the gang are back leave y’all in stiches for the second time. This time, Will Ferrell’s character is trying to take the New York news world by storm. Taking place at the end of the 70s, San Diego’s channel 4 news team finds themselves at rock bottom after being disbanded. Directed by Adam Mckay (the director of the original Anchorman) the film brings back Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, and David Koechner as well as introducing new well-known actors into the mix such as Kristen Wiig. The film is scheduled for release December 20th and is one you’re going to want to see this holiday season.
2. Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit
The fifth film in the series that tells the story of Tom Clancy’s best known character, Jack Ryan, acts as a reboot of the previous installment but also stands on its own–they’re using an original story rather than an adaptation of a Tom Clancy novel. Starring Chris Pine, the fourth actor to play the character of Jack Ryan, the film follows the young covert CIA analyst who discovers a Russian plot to crash the U.S. economy with a terrorist attack. The film also stars the beautiful Keira Knightley as Pine’s characters love interest and is due for release on January 17, 2014. The movie will serve as a dedication to Tom Clancy, who passed away earlier this year. If the trailer is any indication, this one’s going to be a real nail-biter.
The epic, ultra-violent 1987 film inspired two sequels, a television series, two animated TV series, a mini-series, as well as several video games and comic books. Now, MGM has accepted the challenge of creating a new remake of Robocop. Directed by Jose Padilha, the film replicates the original plot, following Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) a good cop and loving father and husband who becomes critically injured. OmniCorp, a multinational conglomerate specializing in robot technology, sees this as an opportunity to create a part-man, part-robot police officer that will appeal to and protect citizens. They hope to create a Robocop in every city and make billions of dollars in the process, but complications arise for the company when the man inside the machine seeks justice. We weren’t sure whether they’d be able to capture the gruesome awesomeness of the original, but then we saw the trailer, and holy shit, this is going to be crazy. The film is scheduled to release in the United States on February 12, 2014.
4. The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Now here is the thing about this next film: it’s either going to be really good or absolutely atrocious. One thing this film does have in its favor is that it isn’t recycling an old plot like the first film, The Amazing Spider-Man, which was basically a revamp of the original Spider-Man franchise that turned into an epic failure. We all remember Tobey Maguire and those awful bangs he had in Spider-Man 3.
This second installment follows Peter Parker, played by Andrew Garfield, as he is still adjusting to his crime fighting life and his relationship with Gwen Stacy, portrayed by Emma Stone. What’s really exciting is the film will include two new villains not yet scene in the Spider-man movies. Paul Giamatti plays “Rhino,” a Russian Mobster wearing a destructive suit and Jamie Foxx will be playing the deadly super villain “Electro.” Paul Giamatti plus Jamie Foxx? This will probably be the best modern Spiderman movie.
Director Marc Webb promises us a darker storyline due to release May 2nd, 2014 so lets keep our fingers crossed for a great sequel.
Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen star in Nicholas Stoller’s comedic film as a young couple that have just had their first child and were expecting to settle down and start their new lives as a family in the quiet suburbs. The plan is disrupted when a frat house from a local university moves in next door. What follows is an all-out war between the two houses and from what is shown in the film’s red-band trailer it looks like it’s going to be hilarious. The film also stars Zac Efron, Dave Franco, and Chritopher Mintz-Plasse, and is scheduled to release May 9th, 2014.
6. X-Men: Days of Future Past
Who wouldn’t be eager for this film? An army of A-list actors will be featured in the seventh film in the X-Men series, including Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and more. It is the third X-Men film directed by Bryan Singer. What’s exciting about the film is that it does something that other films haven’t–it acts as a sequel to both 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand and 2011’s X-Men: First Class, while also continuing the story of 2013’s The Wolverine. The film is based on one of the most famous stories from the X-Men Comics: the one where the mutants are hunted my giant robotic sentinels, a plot we’re sure many X-Men enthusiasts have been waiting for. The movie is due for release on May 23, 2014.
7. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy
The next big installment in the Marvel Universe is Guardians of the Galaxy, a super hero team of futuristic ex-cons teamed with an American pilot. Taking place in the dark depths of space, the team goes on the run with an important object and must battle a “cosmic force of epic proportions.” With an all-star cast including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper and more, big things are expected from the James Gunn-directed film. The film is to be the first non-Avengers Marvel production developed by Walt Disney Pictures. We are excited to see how this new story fares against it’s Avengers counterpart when it comes out August 1st, 2014.
There are plenty of other movies to coming out next year or so that are sure to be huge. But due to a lack of confirmed information, we decided to wait for further news. Movies rumored to grace the movie screens in the next year include Tranformers 4, Jurassic Park 4, Ninja Turtles, a third Kill Bill installment (!!), another Pixar animation, and a new Godzilla flick. Get excited!
