Seems like it’s trailer season. Drizzy made some waves when he put out his album artwork–the internet nearly blew up with rumors that the album depicted Blue Ivy, Jay Z’s daughter opposite Drake (it wasn’t–it’s supposed to be a child version of himself looking into a mirror).
This trailer is definitely subdued. Simply showing a procession of expensive cars rolling down an unexceptional street for the majority of the video, it ends with a screenshot of the album cover. We’re excited to hear the project based on the strength of Drake’s past work, but we’re a bit disappointed by what we feel is a lazy piece of visual work. Especially compared to the Wolf trailer. The only thing remotely interesting is a little Canadian flag attached to the headlight of one of the expensive cars, flapping in the wind. With all those resources, we were hoping for something a bit… flashier?
We have faith in Drake because he knows good music. Check out our interview with him and legendary producer 9th Wonder we did a few years ago:
