If you don’t know, Chvrches are a synth-pop duo from Scotland that just released their debut full-length album. They received a huge boost in their buzz after being selected fifth on BBC’s Sound of 2013 list for promising artists.
Earlier this year, they signed to Glassnote Records, an indie label with an impressive roster of artists including Phoenix, Mumford & Sons, and (their only hip hop act) Childish Gambino. Since then, they’ve received tons of positive press and released a slew of singles and videos.
These guys are leading the way in a new resurgence of 80s-inspired, dancey synth pop that’s taking over the airwaves recently. The surreal, spacy video they unveiled yesterday for their new single “Lies” features surprisingly dark visuals for a such a sugary song. It’s almost like a combination of The Adamms Family, Tron, and A Clockwork Orange, set to music by Duran Duran.
