GURU Playlist: YC The Cynic’s Favorite Jams Right Now

In this series, we have our favorite musicians curate a YouTube Playlist of their favorite tracks/videos.

This week we have YC The Cynic, a staple emcee on the NYC independent scene for a minute now. Best known for his poignant delivery, and gritty, progressive subject matter, YC gives us us diverse list of what he is bumping right now. Check him out.

1. Madcon – Begging You

I’m currently sitting at the RDACBX, our community center in the South Bronx, and a 12 year old b-boy puts this on to practice. Reminds me of how great of a song this is:

2. Ab Soul - Empathy

I once had this song playing on repeat for 7 days straight. I’m exaggerating, it was probably 2 days, but still. Amazing song:

3. YC The Cynic - Murphy’s Law

This is one of my favorite songs from the new album, “GNK.” Its about how evolution very well may be “jumping the shark” at this very moment:

4. Mark Morrison – Return of The Mac

Best. Song. Ever. Anytime this comes on, I stop doing whatever i’m doing and sing:

5. The Pharcyde – Passin’ Me By

One of my favorite Hip-Hop songs ever. I know all the words, and enjoy trying to rap them in that high pitched voice:

6. Drake – The Motion

I’m listening to this while I write this. So smooth. And the beat is crazy:

7. Jay-Z ft. Eminem – Renegade

To me, best lyrical display in hip-hop history. Arguable, of course. But every line in this song is perfect. :

8.  Cee-lo – Evening News

Cee-lo is my favorite artist. But people don’t remember how good he was at rapping. Here’s a reminder, with that catchy cartoon melody:

9. Jagged Edge – Where The Party At (RMX)

Sun, tell me you didn’t like this song when it came out. You’re lying. You’re about to sing along. If you’re not already singing:

10. YC The Cynic: Molotovs At Poseidon

This song is mine. And it’s pretty good, I think. Enjoy:

If you thought this was dope, check out last week’s GURU Playlist with: Gita.
