Some say Flying Lotus single-handedly brought experimental, “intelligent” instrumental music to the U.S. While that may be a bit of an exaggeration, his debut album 1983 undoubtedly sent shockwaves through the music industry and was seminal in the birth of the now-thriving L.A. beat scene. He created the label Brainfeeder, which houses some of the illest names in the beat game, including Mr. Oizo, Ras_G, Samiyam, Teebs, The Gaslamp Killer, Thundercat, Tokimonsta, and Strangeloop.
When we saw the following series of tweets, we were immediately on the edge of our seats:
Could it be? Would the beat king actually follow through and release his new project on a whim? Would reaching 300,000 twitter followers really be impetus enough for such a major player in the game to release new shit? Would the managers and the suits allow it? After all the hype preceding last year’s Cosmogramma, we were doubtful. But then, sure enough, he dropped it.
