When, where and why did you start Heatherette?
2000, New York city, frustrated and bored.
Is there a Heather? And, if so, who is she?
Yes, there is a Heather. She is a girl I knew in California; she ran around the night clubs and she sings opera and has one arm.... I love her "look at me" spirit, that's our kind of girl!
What were you doing before launching the label?
Running around the world running parties, making pop records in Japan.
You’re business partners with Traver Rains; how did you guys start working together?
Met through friends at Horse Barn. He was making leather pieces and I was making t-shirts.
Do you guys collaborate on everything, or did you split responsibilities?
Half and half, depending on the day, mood, and zodiac.
You guys are active in a lot of charity work, can you tell us a little more about that?
Anything involving kids and human rights we’re there … not square.
How has the “party kid culture” influenced your work?
I keep my finger on the pulse of what’s going on.
How would you define your personal style?
Eclectic and mad.
To whom or to what do you attribute the success that you have had in the fashion world?
David Lachapelle, Patricia Field, and über-stylist, Patty Wilson.
What was the inspiration for the Wizard of Oz themed collection?
Fairytales and Warner Brothers.
How was it working with Swizz Beats, from the Over the Rainbow show soundtrack? Who would you like to work with next for music?
Swizz: Awesome from A-Z. The next person has to be a fun collaboration and has to be fast and chaotic.
What are you listening to these days?
Lily Allen, Mika, The Thompson Twins.
What are your plans for Heatherette in the future?
An album, cosmetics, and getting it out for girls and boys on the go!
Tell us about the album.
It’s gonna be on Universal. It’s a fashion record you can wear…like runway for the dance floor. I will be singing some fun duets with our friends like Jenna Jameson and Kelly Osbourne.
